Slow and steady wins the race! Only $12,000 $5,221 more is needed to keep alive and vibrant for the next six months. A big THANK YOU to those who've contributed to our Fall Fundraiser so far. If everyone gave a few dollars (say, between five and fifty) we could get rid of this banner and go back to doing what we love most: helping people all over the Internet discover Krishna. If you give $25 or more, we'll email you a gift of the Bhagavad-gita audio book. How about that? Click here to donate.

Why we're switching to Mayapura Vaishnava Calendar dates

Our year is filled with holidays honoring the advent and passing of saints and avatars of Krishna. Janmashtami, for example, is Krishna's appearance day, celebrated on a grand scale at every temple. Vaishnava calendar dates vary from year to year and by location because they are based on the lunar calendar.

Here at we display the major holy days according to the dates and times for Mayapur, India, where Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared. So, for example, when it's Janmashtami in Mayapur, that's the date we'll list on our calendar page.'s home offices are located in the sleepy town of Alachua, Florida, U.S.A. But Srila Prabhupada considered Mayapur the spiritual home of the Krishna consciousness movement, and the spiritual capital of the world. This is because Mayapur - a sleepy town in West Bengal, India - is where Chaitanya Mahaprabhu began the great spiritual sankirtan movement for delivering the world by spreading the chanting of Krishna's names. Since is trying to serve the online world – and since so many of our visitors are in India - we thought it made a certain kind of sense that the calendar dates we provide should reflect that spiritual sense of "home" by being Mayapur-centric.

All items in our calendar are links that lead to more information about that entry. So if you're not sure what Janmashtami is, click on it. You'll get to a page that will explain all about that holy day.
